Auto mode
In auto mode the tester starts a test plan on its own after a drive is plugged in. This is handy for checking many drives one after another. Auto mode is configured under Settings and is off by default.
Settings
| Setting | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Auto mode enabled | Main switch. |
| Test plan | The plan that is started (built-in or your own). |
| Only untested drives | Only drives without a finished job in their history. |
| Allow destructive plans | Without this option, plans with destructive steps are never started automatically. |
| Countdown | 10 to 600 seconds between detection and start. |
Flow
Auto mode only reacts to drives that are newly plugged in, not to the drives that are already present when the service starts. It only starts if
- the drive is connected and is not a system drive,
- the drive is not in use (not even through old signatures; auto mode never touches such drives),
- no job is running on the drive,
- with "Only untested drives", no job has been finished yet,
- a destructive plan only with "Allow destructive plans" and only for drives with a serial number (without one, a swapped drive cannot be detected).
A countdown then appears on the drive. For destructive plans an "auto-scheduled" alert mail is sent as well. The start can be cancelled during the countdown (button on the drive); it is also cancelled if the drive is removed.
When the countdown ends, the service checks everything again (drive still there, same identity, not in use, no job) and starts the plan. The job is marked as started automatically.
Destructive plans in auto mode erase every newly plugged-in drive without further confirmation. Only enable this if you are sure that only drives with expendable contents are connected.
